significance of this date goes back to 1956, when States Reorganisation Act was enforced across nation, which led to alteration in boundaries of states in India on basis of cultural, and language similarities.

Earlier, Kanna-speaking regions were scattered across neighbouring states of Maharashtra , Andhra Presh, Kerala , and Tamil Nu. movement for linguistic unification of se regions gained momentum, leing to formation of Karnataka, n called Mysore State, on November 1, 1956.
Later in 1973, Mysore was renamed as Karnataka in 1973, a name that symbolises land's history, and cultural significance. Karnataka Rajyotsava is celebrated to honour efforts of all those who worked toward unification of Kanna-speaking regions, as well as to celebrate identity of state.

Rajyotsava celebrations are grand and colourful, with Karnataka state flag, featuring red and yellow, flying high across state. Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar has said that this year’s celebration will remind people of pertinence of Kanna, and cultural identity of this southwestern state will serve as a reminder of importance of Kanna and state’s cultural identity.
