What Is Sadar Sammelan? Know Why Telangana Declares It As New State Festival

In a recent order issued by Chief Secretary to Telangana government Santhi Kumari, dated November 1, it res, “Government hereby declare that Sar Sammelan be celebrated as a State Festival."

As per order, state government requested Commissioners, GHMC (Greater Hyderab Municipal Corporation) and all District Collectors (except Hyderab District) to celebrate Sar Sammelan as a State Festival every year.

What is Sar Sammelan?

Sar Sammelan is a two-day carnival after Diwali celebrations across India, during this festival, people decorate buffaloes and pare m through streets in a show of pride and devotion. festival is organized with great pomp and spirit by Yav Community.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said that show goes till 4 am, where people pray for everyone’s happiness, and get good milk, grass and rain.

“ festival of Sar is celebrated after Diwali by Yav community living in Hyderab. Not only Yavs, but people from or communities, lakhs of people participate in this show. Buffaloes are presented after ir nourishment for a year. Thousands of buffaloes participated in this event. entire Yav community, ir relatives, families and or communities also come to this show. This is an old trition. This show goes on till 4 am. This event is held in every street of Hyderab. After Diwali , big procession of buffaloes, named Sar, is carried out where people pray for everyone's happiness, and everyone get good milk, rains and grass…", Reddy, who participated in event organized by Yav community tells ANI.

Reddy also took to his Instagram account to share a video of himself immersed in festival, captioning it, “Sar Festival - celebrating and paying obeisance to buffaloes.”
