What are the traditions of Karwa Chauth 2024?
The day of Karwa Chauth is also known as Karak Chaturthi, in addition to Karva Chauth or Karaka Chaturthi. The term ‘Karva’ refers to an earthen pot in Hindi, symbolizing the water offerings made to the moon during Karwa Chauth, a day-long fast observed from sunrise until moonrise, during which no food or water is consumed.
According to Drik Panchang, ‘Karva is essential during the puja and is also traditionally donated to a Brahmin or a deserving woman.’

On Karwa Chauth, married Hindu women adorned in traditional attire, fancy mehendi on hands, fast and perform rituals dedicated to Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Kartikeya, and Lord Ganesha, praying for the long life and well-being of their husbands.
The fast is broken only after sighting the moon and offering water, known as Arghya, to their husbands.
