With the majority of occupations coming from dairy and farming, Haryana is one of the wealthiest states in the country. The Haryanvi diet is mainly a vegetarian one and mainly consists of ghee and milk. The emphasis on food in the land is wholesome, fresh and can almost be prepared with no fuss at all. The state is even referred to as the Land of Rotis. Here are a few famous dishes from the state’s cuisine.  

Famous dishes from the Haryanvi Cuisine 

Chole Bhature

The Chole is basically a mix of a spicy curry made of chole and other Indian spices and Bhaturas are fried flatbreads. The dish is very popular and people love eating it. The Chole can also be of different types like Amritsari Chole or Punjabi Chole. The sizes of the bhature vary from place to place. The dish is ideally meant to be eaten hot and fresh. The bhaturas can also be of different varieties including plain and stuffed ones.

Dal Makhani 

It is a dish originating from the northern side of the country. The primary ingredients are whole black lentil, red kidney beans, butter, and cream. The dal gets its thickness from the cream but can also be cooked using yoghurt, milk or no dairy. Meant to be served hot, the dal is often eaten with rotis, parathas or kulchas.

Laccha Paratha 

The laccha paratha is basically a layered bread. Its south Indian counterpart is the parotta which is made from all-purpose flour and eggs. The bread should be made with medium thickness as it cannot be left uncooked. They can be served with almost all kinds of veggies. The laccha parathas can be stuffed as well. The best combination to serve it with is paneer tikka, veg handi, mango pickles or aloo mattar.
