Winter is here, and it is as good a time as any consider turning to Mother Nature for a little help to strengthen her immune health this winter. It is finally that time of year where you know, the one that came to mind every time you smelled cinnamon, clove, nutmeg or ginger.
These herbs have warming properties which are good for the body in the midst of winter. Warmth-inducing herbs also soothe the stomach, aid digestion and also helps in regulating blood sugar. The heavily spiced pumpkin pie actually help in your digestion and keeps your blood sugar level in control.
Adding these herbs and spices to desserts helps but that is not the ideal way to take them. But some herbs help you keep you warm in chilling winters. Here are some of the seasonal herbs that can be added to a variety of foods and beverages.
1: Cinnamon:
Cinnamon is the best option for people who complain that they are always cold, no matter what the temperature is like. Cinnamon helps you dry dampness in the body and stimulates circulation. It is an excellent digestive tonic, immune booster, and blood sugar regulator.
2: Ginger:
Ginger has all the properties which include boosts the immune system, fights allergies, lowers cholesterol, relieves arthritis pain, stimulates digestion, fights nausea and morning sickness, and warms the body. Drinking ginger tea and having ginger hot chocolate, or adding a strong ginger infusion to your bath as this is stimulating.
3: Cardamon:
Cardamon is also a member of the ginger family and has the same stimulating effects on the body. Cardamon also helps in opening the respiratory passages. It also helps in clearing mucus associated with a heavy chest cold.
4: Nutmeg:
Nutmeg is a herb that is good for preventing and flatulence, treating diarrhoea in children and for breaking up chest congestion. The herb also antiviral properties. The herb is widely used in treating cold and cough.
5: Garlic:
Garlic is an incredible herb for the immune system and also an important ingredient in the food. Garlic is full of antiviral and antibacterial properties. It also improves blood circulation and keeps blood cells from clumping together. Garlic is also known to lower glucose metabolism in people with diabetes. Garlic heals wounds, kills parasites and also improves heart rate.
