Ney Appam is one of most common dessert to have originated from sourn part of India. Ney in South India simply means Ghee (clarified butter). rice dessert is usually me during south festivals like Thirukarthigai, Karthigai Deepam.  Appam dough is me using rice flour and jaggery mix which is furr cooked in ghee. How to prepare Ney Appam at home

Things You Need 

  • 1 cup raw rice i.e. 1 cup = 250 ml
  • 1 cup grated jaggery 
  • 1 tablespoon grated coconut
  • 2 bananas (small size)
  • ¼ tsp cardamom powder
  • 1 pinch baking soda (optional)

What To Do 

  1. Rinse one cup of rice with clean water. And soak it in water for an hour.
  2. After one hour, drain water. d soaked and drained rice to mixer, create a thick mixture. (Grind it in mixer to a fine paste without ding water)
  3. Take a bowl and d grated coconut, chopped banana and cardamom powder to mixer. 
  4. d this mixture to rice mixture. Once all ingredients mixed toger, grind it to a fine paste. 
  5. Finally, d jaggery and a pulse or two. te: Do t grind it more as  jaggery will dilute appam batter.
  6. Take Appakarai, that is a n-stick Appam pan. This pan will make baking easier. 
  7. Keep nstick appam pan in flame and d little ghee to each Kuzhi (i.e. mould). 
  8. When pan is hot, take a small lle and fill 3/4th of each hole with batter.
  9. Let Appam cook for a while.
  10. When it turns golden brown colour, remove appam from oil, and place it in a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  11. Repeat above steps for rest of flour.
