World food day: A list of famous Bohri dishes everyone must taste

World Food Day is celebrated on October 16. This is the perfect occasion to venture out of one's comfort zone and explore new dishes. Indian cuisine offers the most varied options there can be. Indian food reflects a perfect blend of various cultures and traditions. From delicious North Indian dishes to lip-smacking South Indian food, India is home to diversified food options. One such lip-smacking option in the Indian culinary basket of options is the Bohri cuisine. Bohris are widely popular with the variety of dishes they offer. Here's all about the top dishes from the Bohri cuisine one must try.

All about the best Bohri dishes

1. Chicken Kaari and steamed rice

Chicken Kaari was traditionally served with mutton during the '90s, but over the years has been considered to taste better with chicken. Do not misinterpret chicken Kaari as 'chicken curry'. Kaari is a completely different dish altogether. It a perfect blend of a traditional Kaari masala and crushed coconut. One must definitely try this amazing Bohri dish. 

2. Kheema Pudla

Kheema, also called minced meat, is a very famous Muslim dish. It is cooked with different spices that add to its flavour. It is tempered with ghee, coriander leaves and potato crispies. What gives this dish a unique Bohris flavour is that it is served with an egg. The Kheema is nicely spread on scrambled egg and relished with bread or paav. If you are fond of meat, this dish is a complete delight.

3. Dal Chawal Palida

Dal Chawal Palida (Lentil rice served with curry) is the most frequently prepared dish in a Bohri house. Be it a special occasion or a gathering, this dish is all time proved to be scrumptious. Dal Chawal Palida marks to be an extremely unique dish as it is only prepared by Bohris. It tops the Bohri food chart as it is light, easy to digest and also very delicious. It is a complete mixture of drumsticks, potatoes, tomatoes, crushed garlic and chopped mint leaves.

4. Mughlai delicacies

Indian cuisine is incomplete without referring to Muslim Mughlai delicacies. Bohri cuisine offers a variety of smoked chicken tikkas, red-hot tikkas (Peshwari tikkas) and mint and chilly based (Haryali tikkas). Bohri food is surprising all about chicken! They serve these three coloured tikkas in a platter and beautifully decorate it with vegetables.

5. Nalli Nihari and Paya

Nalli Nihari is a dish that is usually served with Paya (trotters) and bread. Nihari is a slow-cooked meat stew, Paya-Trotters and Nalli -Shanks is a perfect combination to devour. Every year in Ramzaan, this dish is widely available at the Mohammed Ali Road, Shalimar hotel and Delhi Biryani and Nalli Nihari Centre in Mumbai. Whoever visits Mumbai has to visit Mohammed Ali Road to try this delicacy.
