Carrots are a staple in salad and a portion of perfect health food. They are crunchy and sweet in taste. Carrots are highly nutritious and have a number of health benefits. They are a huge source of fiber and potassium. If you are aiming to lose weight, a carrot is a perfect pick for you. Apart from weight loss, the carrot has several health benefits. Reduce the risk of cancer

Carrots contain carotenoids that help in protecting against several types of cancer. This include prostate, colon, and stomach cancers. Women with high circulating levels of carotenoids also have a reduced risk of breast cancer. According to PubMed Central, National Institutes of Health’s research says that carotenoids help in protecting against lung cancer.

Diabetes control

The antioxidants and phytochemicals in carrots help in regulating blood sugar levels in the body. Carrots have a quarter of the carbohydrate content that is sugar, however, the amount of carbohydrate in carrots is relatively small. According to Harvard Health, the glycemic index of carrot is 39, this means the impact on blood sugar level is fairly low.

According to the National Institute of Health, chopped carrot contains 1.8b grams of fibre and 205 mg of potassium. It is advised to people, not to consume more than 2300 mg of sodium a day whereas the intake of potassium should be approximately 4700 mg. The American Heart Association recommends that consume a fibre-rich diet and increasing potassium while reducing sodium intake to protect high blood pressure and heart disease. Carrots offer a perfect balance of these nutrients.
