Tomato is one of the most popular and majorly cultivated vegetables in the world. The name was first derived from the Aztecs word tomatl, which gave rise to the Spanish word tomate. The English word tomato was derived from the Spanish word. Tomatoes are regarded to be really juicy and tasty and are used in every conceivable food item, from curries to hamburgers. Contrary to popular belief, Tomato is actually classified as a fruit. But it is commonly used as a vegetable or a side dish. However, not many people are aware of the health benefits tomatoes have. Let's have a look at four benefits tomatoes have for one's skin.

1. Glowing skin

We all definitely love to have glowing skin. It raises our self-confidence to great levels. Good news then as tomatoes help one achieve just that. Not only do tomatoes add a tangy flavour to one's favourite cuisine but also give a glowing complexion. Sprinkling tomato juice on one's face or rubbing out tomato cubes directly onto the skin revives old skin cells and rejuvenates them.

2.  Acts as a natural sunscreen

Tomato contains lycopene and it is used as a facial cleanser. Apart from eating them as salad, one can also peel them, and use the peeled-off skin as a mask on the face. The high lycopene content can help one protect their skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun. However, tomatoes cannot replace sunscreens so use them with caution.

3. Repairs the damage done by smoking

Smoking is extremely harmful to health. Yet, we see people smoking daily. In such cases, tomatoes come to the rescue. The acids present in tomatoes, such as coumaric acid and chlorogenic acid, help to protect the body from the adverse effects of cigarette smoke, and that includes passive smokers as well.

4. Regulates Blood Sugar
