India is facing a problem of water scarcity. Water scarcity in India is due to both natural and man-made causes. Poor management of resources, lack of government attention and man-made waste are the main factors contributing to water scarcity and contamination of water. Below are a few methods which can be used to save water at home.
Easy ways to save water at home
Reuse water
Reusing water is one of the primary ways to save water at home. Are you thinking of ways to reuse water? One can reuse water that comes out from the washing machine to clean their bathrooms and washrooms. Another way is to rinse fruits and veggies and deposit the same water in the garden.
Rainwater harvesting
Rainwater harvesting is collecting the run-off rainwater from the roofs of homes or buildings and storing it for later use. The easiest way to do this process at home is by installing a rain barrel. A rain barrel is connected to a pipe that collects rainwater from the rooftop or verandah and channels the water in some kind of storage vessel.
Double-dip dish wash
Washing dishes in running water simply leads to wasting water. Instead, use two buckets of water. Fill one with hot or warm water and the other with clear cool water for rinsing. Dip the soapy dishes in the warm water first. This will also help to kill the germs present on the plate. Subsequently, rinse the dish in clear water. By applying this double-dip technique every day, one can save more than 50% of the water that gets wasted while washing dishes.
Check for open or leaking faucets
This is one of the most simple ways to save water at home. Never let faucets run needlessly during washing of hands or face, brushing of teeth, shaving, rinsing dishes, and other activities. Turning off the tap will save several litres of water per month. As a routine activity, check pipes and faucets for breakage and plug them. Remember, every drop of water is precious.
