Nara Jayanti: History and significance 

Nara Jayanti is birth anniversary of Devrishi Nara Muni. He is a musician and a divine messenger of gods, who provides all-kwing gods with useful information in Hindu mythology. According to Hindu mythology, Nara Muni is first journalist on earth and has ability to travel to all places in all of creation. His acts stirred up a lot of chaos for Suras and Asuras, which was necessary for maintaining balance of universe.

Nara Muni is a devotee of Lord Vishnu, who is also kwn as Narayana. He is often described as chanting name Narayana, which, if uttered by humans at time of ir death, will give m eternal salvation. Narayana is embodiment of truth, thus making Nara proclaimer of truth. He does t discriminate between creation of Lord Vishnu and considers m equal thus providing everyone with truth. Narayan Jayanti is thus celebrated to glorify triumph of truth and purity over corrupt evil.

According to Hindu scriptures, Nara Jayanti is observed on Pratipa Tithi, when earth is in  Krishna Paksha of Jyeshtha month. This is according to rth Indian calendar. Usually, it is celebrated a day after Buddha Poornima. On rare occasions, two festivals fall on same day.
