Pests can be a nuisance, they are potentially poisonous and unhygienic to have around, especially spiders. They mostly live outdoors, but sometimes they infest inside homes and lay eggs, increasing the number of spiders in any house. While spiders prey on other more harmful pests, they might leave their venom on humans' skin. Here are the top three ways to get rid of spiders from your home.

Keeping your home clean:

Spiders prey on other pesticides. They make cobwebs where there is a possibility for them to catch more insects. So keeping your home clean and tidy would help keep them away. Vacuuming and cleaning regularly would reduce the cobwebs and spider eggs, if any, bringing the number of spiders down to zero.

Spray your house down with peppermint oil:

  • Fill a spray bottle with water and put in 15 to 20 drops of peppermint oil. Spray it in all the cracks and corners of your house.
  • Spiders cannot bear the smell of peppermint oil; hence, they will run away from the smell. As a result, it is most effective when applied to possible entrances to the home. You can even spray this directly at the cobwebs.
  • You can substitute it with eucalyptus oil or tea tree oil if you do not like peppermint.

Attack spiders with vinegar:

  • In a spray bottle, mix equal parts of water and white vinegar. Spray it in areas where spiders gather and spray it directly on any spider you see.

  • Vinegar has acetic acid, which shall kill spiders upon contact.

  • The odour alone may be enough to repel them.

Other effective methods that have worked are spraying residual insecticide and keeping plants away from doors and windows. These things have to be done regularly in order to keep spiders in check. These are quick fixes and will remain effective for a few weeks at the most. After that, they need to be repeated.
