Navratri 2024 Day 7: Significance Of Maa Kalaratri, Shubh Muhurat, Colour Of The Day

Despite her fearsome appearance, Maa Kalaratri blesses devotees with protection and auspiciousness, earning the name Shubhkari.

The celebration of Navratri intensifies as we approach Dussehra. During the period of Navratri all nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped for blessings and protection, and on day 7 of Navratri, which falls on Wednesday, October 9, is dedicated to worshipping Maa Kalaratri.

Significance of Maa Kalaratri

Maa Kalaratri is depicted with a dark complexion and rides a donkey. According to Drik Panchang, the Goddess is portrayed with four arms (Chaturbhuj), holding a sword and an iron goad in her left hand, while her right hands are in the Abhaya (protection) and Varada (blessing) mudras.

Maa Kalaratri represents the fierce and fearsome form of Goddess Parvati, as described by Drik Panchang, “The form of Goddess Parvati in which she sheds her outer golden skin to defeat the demons Shumbha and Nishumbha is known as Goddess Kalaratri.” Despite her fearsome appearance, she blesses devotees with protection and auspiciousness, earning the name Shubhkari.

The Goddess is also associated with the planet Saturn.

Shubh Muhurat

According to Drik Panchang, the Brahma Muhurat on October 9 begins at 4:40 am and ends at 5:29 am. The Vijaya Muhurat will be from 2:05 pm to 2:51 pm. The Saptami Tithi begins at 12:14 pm on October 9 and lasts until 12:31 pm on October 10.

Colour of the Day

On the seventh day of Navratri , royal blue is worn by many believers, symbolizing prosperity and peace.

Conclusion

Sharidya Navratri started on October 3 and will conclude on the day of Dusherra which is on October 12. This festival holds special in the hearts of the Hindu believers as it signifies a victory of Goddess Durga over Mahishasura, and the ultimate victory of "Good over Evil".
