Quit India Movement history

Quit India Movement, which is also kwn as August Movement, was launched at Bombay session of All-India Congress Committee, led by Mahatma Gandhi during World War II. movement was called to end British Rule in India. It was launched after Cripps Mission has failed. During his speech at August Kranti Maidan, Mahatma Gandhi dressed nation calling it a ‘Do or Die’ situation.

mass protest launched by All-India Congress Committee demanded withdrawal of British rule from India. resolution declared immediate end of British rule for success of freedom and democracy. Around 1,00,000 people, including several leers like  Mahatma Gandhi, were arrested during movement.

first half of protest was peaceful while second half was full of violent protests. In 1944, Quit India campaign was crushed as British refused to grant immediate independence. y said that independence could happen only after World War II ended.

After several leers were arrested, Quit India Movement was carried forward by common people of country. People from all sections, religions, caste, and creed participated in huge numbers. This was a significant move as British began to think about issue of Indian Independence. Thus, as Quit India Movement boosted freedom struggle in India, this day is observed to pay tribute to leers and freedom fighters who sacrificed ir lives for freedom of our country.
