Ramadan marks ninth and most sacred month of Islamic calendar. Muslims all over world observe a month of fasting, reflection, and prayer as a community. This month-long devotion commemorates Muhammad’s first revelation and its annual observance is considered as one of Five Pillars of Islam. Ramadan lasts from one crescent moon’s sighting to next one.

It is obligatory for all adult Muslims who are t acutely or chronically ill, diabetic, pregnant, breastfeeding, travelling, menstruating or elderly to fast between sunrise to sunset. meal before sunrise is kwn as Suhur or Sehar and one which breaks fast is called Iftar. Those who live in regions with polar night or midnight sun are urged to follow Mecca’s timetable.

It is believed that spiritual rewards of fasting multiples during month of Ramadan. Besides refraining from food and bever, Muslims also shun tobacco products, sexual relations, and sinful behaviour. y devote mselves to recitation of Quran and immerse in charitable deeds.

Eid marks end of Ramadan and is observed as a holiday. It also marks beginning of next lunar month of Shawwal, which is declared after thirty days of fasting and sighting of moon is evident. refore, Eid is a celebration of returning into a more natural disposition of eating, drinking, and intimacy.
