When you shortlist a destination for your vacation, a lot of the initial planning revolves around how to reach the destination – by booking relevant tickets for travel via flight, train, bus, and boat. However, the adventurous travellers will have to keep one more option open – travel via road by car. This article mentions a few road trip ideas related to popular destinations that are best explored via road, allowing the tourists to enjoy the scenic landscapes along the way!
Route 66, USA
This is perhaps one of the longest routes (when we discuss must-do road trips) encompassing more than two thousand miles across eight states. You get to witness vibrant roadside attractions, beautiful landscapes, glimpses of the old America, small towns, good museums, and more. You can move from Los Angeles to Chicago using this road trip.
Great Ocean Road, Australia
On this long route, you come across a beautiful coastline, amazing lighthouses, the Twelve Apostles, national parks, and exciting cliffs. You can opt for a swim in Apollo Bay or a stroll along the Bells beach. The animal lovers can get down at the Great Otway National Park. For travellers fond of breath-taking views, a visit to Otway Lighthouse and the Twelve Apostles is a must.
The Atlantic Road, Norway
This is quite a short route along the Norwegian coastline, but the bridges and belly-flips add to the thrill of this drive. Additionally, as you drive along this road, you can view unusual birds flying above as well as watch whales and seals swim along the coastline. The best time to drive here is around dusk, to witness an orangish sunset that is beautiful to watch.
North Coast 500, Scotland
The grandeur of Scotland’s beautiful coast is on display along this really long route of over 500 miles. The drive starts from Inverness and goes across winding roads, stunning mountains and castles, lochs, and white sand beaches. It is Scotland’s version of Route 66, USA.
Milford Road, New Zealand
This route along the mountains of South Island is totally scenic, giving you the opportunity to explore waterfalls, snow-capped mountains, and huge cliffs, fern trees, and more. A stopover near Edlington valley and at the Mirror Lakes is a must-do. You can even witness the Avenue of Disappearing Mountain – where an optical illusion makes the approaching mountain seem smaller instead of larger.
These road trips provide you the excitement of driving along on open roads, as well as setting up your own travel schedule. You do not have to reach somewhere at the exact time to catch a flight, train, or bus. You are free to drive around, get down to some amazing pictures, and make more memories!
