Standing 'seats': Aviointeriors introduces bizarre standing airline seats for 'ultra basic economy' section, netizens shocked at the horror

Germany seems to be wishing for the Mumbai local train experience, as reports of a new 'standing airline seat' have emerged from the country.

In the recent Aircraft Interior Expo held in Hamburg, Germany, airline interior designing company - 'Aviointeriors' introduced the SkyRider 3.0 - the 'standing' seats.

Pictures of these seats which can be installed in a lower economy section show a thigh seat with backrest and arms. Essentially, one stands with feet apart on either side of the thigh unit and rest on the backrest.

Talking to a US news network,  the engineering advisor at Aviointeriors, Gaetano Perugini said, "The message is, we do not want to put thousands of people in the cabin, we want to offer a multi-class configuration, which is nowadays impossible if you want to reach the maximum load of passengers."

Explaining a bizarre bifurcation in the economy class, he added, "So that means that in the same cabin, you will have a standard economy, premium economy or business class and ultra-basic economy - which is an innovation for the airline and the passenger. This is the true reason for the SkyRider." The company has compared seating on the SkyRider as comfortable as horse riding for hours
