What is Lunar Eclipse?

A report in Earth sky reveals that lunar eclipses occur when Earth's shadow blocks sun's light, which rmally reflects off moon. re are three types of lunar eclipses, total, partial and penumbral, with most dramatic being a total lunar eclipse. During a total Lunar Eclipse, Earth’s shadow completely covers moon.

However, this isn’t case during a total eclipse of moon, inner part of Earth’s shadow, kwn as  umbra, falls on moon’s face. At time of mid-eclipse, entire moon is in shadow, hence, it appears as blood red. While during a partial eclipse, umbra takes a bite out of only a fraction of moon.
