Workplaces etiquette needs to be followed by every corporate professional. While there are some rules laid down in the official rule book, there are some unsaid rules that need to adhere too. Here are a few simple etiquettes which should be followed in your day-to-day life.
Work Etiquettes
- If you have a door, close it if you want to take personal calls. If you don’t have a door or are in an open-plan space, keep private calls short or walk to an area that is more conducive to personal calls like a lounge area. If you work in an open office space calls are creating any sort of distraction to you, remember that it’s probably not the person’s intention to bother you.
- Its called the water cooler chat for a reason so do not use the restroom to socialise, whether you need to call your mom or catch up on the latest office news.
- If you’re in a meeting, give your full attention to the person speaking.
- Don't forget that people are sitting around you and that you make splatter the food. It is a luxury these days that people in the office can have lunch away from their desk. So please go ahead and have it at lunch area. Because as much as you may love steamed fish, the rest of your team will probably won’t and would not like the non-veg food either.
- Always think before you hit reply-all while replying to any email. Asking yourself that does everyone needs to take the time out of their day to go through your email?
- Overall what matters in the office that showing respect to the other person, then they are it your senior or the boss or the boss's boss. If you entered the elevator and see them coming your way please hold the door and show them respect.
- Everyone likes their own personal perfume which is always dear to their heart but the office is not the place where you should wear the pulse points fragrance. Wear a mildly scented perfume which will not permeate the whole room.
- Even if you’re friendly with your colleagues, be aware of boundaries. Over-sharing details of your personal life are unprofessional no matter how close you are with your team.
