INDI Bloc MPs To Not Assist Pro-Tem Speaker During Parliament Session: Report
As Bhratruhari Mahtab was appointed as the pro-tem speaker for the 18th Lok Sabha, the Opposition had accused the ruling-BJP of overlooking seniority.

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Bhratruhari Mahtab was took oath as pro-tem speaker for 18th Lok Sabha on Monday, June 24, amid ongoing row over seniority. He was ministered oath by President Droupi Murmu.
Mahtab is tasked with presiding over proceedings of Lok Sabha on June 24 and 25 when new members take oath as members of Parliament. On Wednesday, he will preside over House when a new Speaker will be elected, while President Droupi Murmu will be dressing a joint-sitting of both houses of Parliament.

As Bhratruhari Mahtab was appointed as pro-tem speaker for 18th Lok Sabha, Opposition h accused ruling-BJP of overlooking seniority. INDI leers alleged that seven-term MP Bhratruhari Mahtab was appointed as pro-tem Speaker, inste of Congress leer K Suresh, who is an eighth-term MP.
Congress said that appointment of BJP MP Mahtab deviates from tritional practice of appointing senior member. As a sign of protest, INDI leers are likely to not assist pro-tem speaker in proceedings of house. INDI leers have decided to not sit on chair during oath-taking ceremony of newly-elected MPs.
