Kiran Choudhry Joins BJP With Daughter Shruti Day After Resigning From Congress

Senior Haryana Congress leaders Kiran Choudhry, her daughter Shruti Choudhry joined the BJP ahead of Haryana assembly elections.

New Delhi: Ahead of crucial Haryana assembly elections, senior leader Kiran Choudhary joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Kiran Choudhary along with her daughter Shruti Choudhary joined the BJP on Wednesday, June 19. Kiran Choudhry is daughter-in-law of former Haryana chief minister Bansi Lal and a sitting MLA from Tosham in Bhiwani district. Shruti Choudhry was the working president of the Haryana unit of the Congress.

The two former Congress leaders joined the BJP in the presence of Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini, Union Minister CM Manohar Lal Khattar & party National General Secretary Tarun Chugh. Welcoming Kiran Choudhary in the party, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that its a historic day. "Today is a very historic day...Today, two prominent personalities are in the party, who have worked in Congress for many years...I have known Kiran ji since the time we worked with Bansi Lal ji...Kiran ji and I used to sit face to face in the assembly, " Khattar said, as quoted by ANI. 
 

 

After joining the BJP, Kiran Choudhry said, "Today I took this decision because of Prime Minister, who has pledged a developed India by 2047. I have full faith that India will shine in the world. The public welfare work done by the Prime Minister has led to the formation of a BJP government in Delhi for the third time. I have worked a lot with Khattar ji. There used to be a lot of bitterness between us. But the way he worked has been my source of inspiration."

Kiran, Shruti Quit Congress 

The mother-daughter duo tendered their resignation from the primary membership of the Congress party on Tuesday. While resigning from the Congress after remaining with the for almost 4 decades, Kiran Choudhary, in a veiled attack at former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda, said, “There is a limit to humiliation one can suffer.”

Kiran Choudhary, in her letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, wrote, “It is most unfortunate that the Congress Party in Haryana is being run as the personal fiefdom leaving no space for sincere voices like mine, who have been stifled, humiliated and conspired against in a most well-orchestrated and systematic manner, thus, significantly hampering my diligent efforts to represent our people and uphold the values, I have always stood for.”

Assembly elections in Haryana are to be held in October this year, in which the Congress aims oust BJP after its surprising performance in the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections. The Congress bagged 5 seats in Haryana this Lok Sabha elections, all of which were won by the BJP in 2019.
