'Opposition's Selective Politics Worrisome': PM Modi on Atrocities Against Women in Bengal

PM's speech also had a mention of Sandeshkhali horror wherein scores of women alleged assault by TMC goons.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday lambasted the Opposition parties over the alleged atrocities on women in West Bengal. In reference to a video on social media displaying assault, PM Modi said that a woman was beaten up publicly in Kolkata but no one came forward to rescue her when she screamed for help as people were busy in filming the act.  

PM's speech also had a mention of Sandeshkhali horror wherein scores of women alleged assault by TMC goons. Sandeshkhali witnesses a massive uproar over the alleged atrocities on women there.   

Sandeshkhali Incident Nerve-Racking

The PM added," The Sandeshkhali incident was nerve-racking. But I can't see the pain in opposition's voices. What else can be more shameful than this?" 

He also attacked political leaders of the Opposition for maintaining silence over the issue. "The Opposition's selective attitude on atrocities against women is very worrying...I have seen a video from Bengal on social media where a woman was being beaten...The incident which happened in Sandeshkhali....But even the senior leaders (of the opposition) have not said a word about it...,"PM Modi said in Rajya Sabha. 

PM's Speech Centered Around Bengal Violence, NEET scam

PM Modi on Wednesday addressed the Rajya Sabha and participated in a discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address. PM Modi's address focused on crucial topics like corruption, Bengal violence, NEET scam, inflation, and the Agniveer scheme, all of which have been subjects of discussion in the upper House of Parliament thus far. Earlier on Tuesday, the Prime Minister addressed the Lok Sabha following which the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die. Speaker Om Birla said it recorded a productivity of 103 per cent.

The PM's address in the upper house today comes a day after his fierce rebuttal of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday The PM accused the LoP and the Congress of focusing all their efforts on propagating the notion that the BJP-led NDA lost the 2024 general elections, despite the coalition securing a historic third term.
