Rahul Gandhi To Visit Manipur on July 8

This will be Rahul Gandhi's third visit to the northeastern state since violence broke out there in May last year.

New Delhi: Leer of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will visit Manipur on July 8. This will be his third visit to norastern state since violence broke out re in May last year.

Manipur Congress chief K Meghachandra on Saturday informed about itinerary of upcoming visit of Rahul Gandhi to state.

He said Gandhi would travel from Delhi to Silchar on a flight and from re would he to Jiribam district where fresh violence occurred on June 6.

"Gandhi will visit some relief camps in district. He will n return to Silchar airport and from re take a flight to Imphal," Meghachandra said.

"After landing in Imphal, he will he to Churachandpur district where he will interact with people living in relief camps," he ded

Raebareli MP will go to Moirang in Bishnupur district by ro and visit some relief camps. He will n return to Imphal where a meeting with Governor Anusuiya Uikey is being planned.

"He will n leave state," Meghachandra said.

According to party sources, Gandhi would also meet Manipur leers.

Congress legislature party leer in Manipur O Ibobi Singh said, "Gandhi visited state twice since outbreak of violence on May 3 last year. He has visited relief camps to learn about pains and sorrow of people." 

Gandhi visited Manipur in June 2023 and also for start of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra earlier this year.

Initiating debate on behalf of opposition in Lower House of Parliament on Motion of Thanks for President's dress in first session of 18th Lok Sabha earlier this week, Gandhi h accused BJP-led government of pushing Manipur into a "civil war" due to its policies and politics.

Congress leer h also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting state since ethnic violence broke out re.

Gandhi h alleged that government is behaving as if nothing has happened in Manipur. "You have immersed Manipur into a civil war. Manipur has been burnt by you, your policies and your politics," he h said.

Congress leer h said it seems as if Manipur is not an Indian state.

"For prime minister, re is no state of Manipur. We urged prime minister to give a message, to go re. But no. You cannot get a reply (from prime minister)," he h said.

Gandhi h also referred to plight of women in norastern state. Responding to a remark from treasury benches, he h said "You do not include women in your organisation, but I can speak about m." 

Replying to a debate in Rajya Sabha on Motion of Thanks for President's dress, Prime Minister Narendra Mod h said earlier this week that Centre was working with state government and ors to restore normalcy in state.

" government is continuously making efforts to normalise situation in Manipur. More than 11,000 FIRs have been registered and over 500 people have been arrested. Incidents of violence are continuously reducing in Manipur," PM Modi said.

He h said that more than 500 people have been arrested and over 11,000 FIRs have been registered in Manipur.

Modi h furr said Manipur was facing a flood situation as well and Centre has dispatched two teams of National Disaster Response Force to state.

Meanwhile, in recent Lok Sabha polls, Congress party won both seats in violence hit state.

Manipur plunged into violence between Meitei and Kuki communities in May last year. Since n, some 200 people have been killed while thousands have been displaced following large-scale arson that gutted homes and government buildings.
