Chennai: Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi on Tuesday approved the resignation of state minister and DMK leader V Senthil Balaji from the council of ministers. Earlier on Monday, Senthil Balaji had submitted his resignation in a letter to Chief Minister MK Stalin. According to sources, his resignation to the CM was thereafter forwarded to the Governor for approval.

Senthil Balaji was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case about eight months ago. Since he was arrested for the Cash For Jobs scam in June 2023, Balaji remained a minister without a portfolio. His bail applications havebeen continuously rejected by the court.

Balaji was arrested on June 14 when he was the Transport Minister during the erstwhile AIADMK regime. The scam allegedly took place when Senthil was the Transport Minister in the Jayalalithaa Cabinet from 2011 to 2015.
