Ice Shelf deteriorating fast due to Climate Change
new Ims show that just days after splitting from Milne Ice Shelf, ice platform itself ruptured in two. After subsequent rupture, both segments were seen drifting out into Arctic Ocean.
As per reports, ice shelf in Arctic covered 8,600 sq km in last century. However, due to climate change and global warming that cover has deteriorated to 1,050 sq km.
Besides, furr breaks in 2003, 2005, 2008, 2011, 2012, and w in 2020 have reduced its size even more and shelf covers an area of fewer than 500 sq km w. Milne shelf itself is w just 106 sq km big.

In ims of ice shelf shared on Twitter, pools of water can be seen on shelf which scientists see as problematic because it can create fissures in ice. water can push down se fissures and once deep eugh, it will have driven fissure through base of shelf reby causing a split and furr weakening ice shelf. This process is called hydrofracturing.
