t so long ago, we found out that scientists are on quest to unveil history of Dark and its existence. w, reports have revealed that a massive Quasar which is present since early universe, containing a monster black hole with a mass equivalent to 1.5 billion suns has been found. It is one of two ancient quasars kwn from same cosmological period.

Formally designated as J1007+2115, it was discovered using telescopes on Maunakea, a mountain houred in Hawaiian culture. Due to discovery of cosmological object in Hawaii, it is w deted as Pōniuāʻena which means "unseen spinning source of creation, surrounded with brilliance" in Hawaii langu. Reportedly, first quasar to receive an Indigeus name, it was created by 30 Hawaiian immersion school teachers during a workshop led by A Hua He Ia group, a Hawaiian naming program led by Imiloa Astromy Center of Hawaii.

What is a Quasar?

Quasars are most energetic objects in universe. According to current ory, supermassive black holes are responsible for powering such quasars in universe. As black holes gobble up surrounding matter such as dust, gas, or even entire stars, y emit tremendous amounts of energy, resulting in lumisities kwn to outshine entire galaxies. Since ir discovery, astromers have been keen to determine when y first appeared in our cosmic history.

More about Pōniuāʻena

Astromers

As we kw supermassive black holes power quasars, Pōniuāʻena is amongst two most distant and earliest kwn objects. It comprises of a black hole exceeding 1 billion solar masses. study revealed that light from Pōniuāʻena took 13.02 billion years to reach Earth (starting its journey just 700 million years after Big Bang).

A postdoctoral research associate at University of Arizona's Steward Observatory and le author of study, Jinyi Yang said that it is earliest monster of this kind that humankind as ever found. He also mentioned that time was, considerably, too short for it to grow from a small black hole to ermous size we see.

Astromers

According to several reports and current cosmological models, astromers are in awe as to see a massive black hole of Pōniuāʻenas proportions that could have evolved from a much smaller black hole formed by collapse of a single star in such a short time since Big Bang is next to impossible. authors of study believe that quasar would have started out as a "seed" black hole alrey containing equivalent mass of 10,000 suns as early as 100 million years after Big Bang.

How did Astromers find out Pōniuāʻena quasar?

A systematic search for most distant quasars led to discovery of Pōniuāʻena. research began with a team combing through large-area surveys such as DECaLS imaging survey, which uses Dark Energy Camera on Víctor M. Blanco 4-meter Telescope located at Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile, and UHS imaging survey, which uses Wide Field Camera on UK Infra-Red Telescope, located at Maunakea.

Gemini rth telescope and W. M. Keck Observatory, both on Maunakea, helped team uncover ancient quasar. However, Mllan telescope at Las Campanas Observatory in Chile confirmed existence of J1007+2115 i.e. Pōniuāʻena. A NASA Hubble Fellow at Steward Observatory, Feige Wang revealed that observations with Gemini were critical for obtaining high-quality near-infrared spectra that provided team with measurement of black hole's astounding mass. This discovery has helped astromers to move ahe in unveiling secrets from dawn of cosmos providing researchers with a rare glimpse into a time when universe was still young and very different from what we see today, as per researchers.
