Google continues to display ads purporting to prevent coronavirus after prohibiting them

Google has been displaying ads this week for the products that claimed to protect against coronavirus despite having a policy against it. Read on for details

With emerging cases of Coronavirus around world, re has been a rise in number of brands taking to online medium to promote ir products like gloves, hand sanitizers, face masks and many such products purporting to prevent disease. However, services like Google s are finding it difficult to enforce policies that ban se vertisements.

As of this past Wednesday, Google s has displayed many such vertisements, despite fact that Google has a policy which forbids  content capitalising on dely virus outbreak, according to a company spokesperson. Google has also introduced ar policy in Korea wherein it has disabled s for every YouTube content that revolves around virus.

However, products that are promising to prevent Coronavirus continue to appear in sponsored shopping lists for product searches and on third-party websites through Google s.

A few days ago, Facebook h also prohibited vertisements on ir platform which claimed to prevent or cure disease or tried creating urgency around virus, such as promoting products with a limited supply period. Tech giants such as Google, Facebook and Amazon have seen a sudden rise in number of brands moving to use ir services in hopes of making quick cash from Coronavirus concerns and have struggled to put away se violators.

According to a report from CNBC, re has been one such case where a third party  served by Google promised protection against coronavirus, calling it “Government approved to block up to 95% of airborne viruses and bacteria. Limited Stock.” and product's direct website h listed it as ”National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health approved for at least 95 percent filtration efficiency against certain n-oil based particles.” However, actual listing of product was for a website called MedicalProtex,
