Researchers have recently discovered the first new giant isopod species in waters near Indonesia. These species are popularly referred to as 'Darth Vader'.

Researchers have recently discovered first new giant isopod species in waters near Indonesia. An isopod is a marine, terrestrial or freshwater creature that has seven pairs of legs. Furr, se creatures are capable of crawling. buglike creature is called Bathymus Raksasa. sea bug approximately measures 13 inches in length.

se species were also popularly referred to as "Darth Ver of Seas". y were probably called so since ir hes resembled helmet of Sith Lord. se species can grow up to 20 inches in length. In 2018, this species was found in Indian Ocean. Bathymus Raksasa derives its name from Indonesian word Rakasa, meaning giant. This is first largest isopod specie that has been found in a dece.

About Bathymus Raksasa species:

Bathymus Raksasa marine life species was reportedly found at a depth of about 3,117 and 4,134 feet in ocean. Scientists were reportedly on an expedition called South Java Deep-Sea Biodiversity Expedition. During expedition, 2 Bathymus Raksasa specimens were discovered by researchers i.e. a male and a female specimen.

 This sea bug species seemed to have a unique shape. giant bugs h a he shield along with abdominal segments. y also h several spines on ir abdomen ranging between 11 to 13 in number. se factors indicated that Bathymus Raksasa species was a new species.One of South Java Deep-Sea Biodiversity Expedition members, Muhamm Dzaki Bin Safaruan said that staff members could t ‘contain ir excitement’ when y caught a glimpse of Bathymus Raksasa species.

Discovering Bathymus Raksasa species:

researcher of Tropical Marine Science Institute at National University of Singapore, Helen Wong spoke about discovery of this species. According to Wong, identification of Bathymus Raksasa species showed how oceans were yet unexplored. Wong also said that y h to explore biodiversity of ir oceans much more.

More about isopod species:

According to National Oceanic and Atmospheric ministration, most isopods share common characteristics or features. Some of se features include two pairs of antennae and four sets of jaws. Most species also have compound eyes. Isopods have a segmented body comprising of seven sections. According to a research journal, out of 16 Bathymus species that have been discovered, 7 belong to family of ‘supergiants’. se species mature when y reached a 6-inch length.
