NASA astronaut rejects idea of living in Elon Musk's Mars colony; calls it 'horrible'

NASA's veteran astronaut Stanley Love said that life in Elon Musk's Mars colony would be horrible while recalling his expedition to Antarctica.

NASA astronaut Stanley Love said that life on Mars would initially be horrible and that he has plans to join first batch of humans leaving for Elon Musk's colony. During an interview with U.S. Sun, astronaut mitted that settling on red planet is indeed possible but conditions would be t something to look forward to. He also opined that Musk's goal of sending one million humans to Mars by 2050 is 'unrealistic.' 

Stan Love, who joined NASA in 1998 and has logged more than 300 hours in cited his expedition to Antarctica to back his statement. "Do I think it’s possible? Yes. Do I think it would be enjoyable? ," astronaut told U.S. Sun. "I think it would be horrible. This is based on an opportunity I h while in astronaut office to go to Antarctica".

Love revealed that during his stay in Antarctica with seven ors, y h to live in small tents and h "ping pong ball-sized wormy little apples". According to him, team was extremely careful in distributing food as it was limited and h to be re-supplied. "It will be a very long time before Mars is able to produce even a wormy little ping pong ball-sized apple. Much less a nectarine", astronaut was reported saying. 

What does Musk think of life on Mars?

Even Musk mits that first few astronauts would face extremely difficult circumstances during ir trip and on planet. He even said that some might t make it back but conditions will become relatively easier over time. During an interview with he of TED conferences Chris Anderson, Musk said that his aero company X would launch thousands of Starships, with about 100 people in each, every two years in 2030s to establish a sustainable presence on red planet.

During a podcast with MIT scientist Lex Fridman, billionaire also got candid about his Mars aspirations and said that he won't send astronauts to Mars just to put flags and footprints. To get job done, X is developing mega-rocket Starship at Starbase facility in Texas before it takes off for first time possibly later this year.
