NASA astronauts go on spacewalk to upgrade station batteries, share pictures of Earth

NASA astronauts Chris Cassidy and Bob Behnken went outside the International Space Station (ISS) on July 1 for their second spacewalk in less than a week.

NASA astronauts Chris Cassidy and Bob Behnken went outside International Station on July 1 for ir second walk in less than a week. duo swapped station batteries ahe of Independence Day weekend to upgre power systems on station, replacing ing nickel-hydrogen (NiH2) batteries with new lithium-ion (Li-Ion) batteries.

y have two more walks planned later in July and battery upgres are expected to continue on future walks. target dates and time for next upgres will be anunced once mission planners assess scope of remaining work to be done. NASA shared video on its official Twitter account in which duo can be seen working on upgre.

"You have control of battery. I do. I'm in a good spot," one of astronauts can be heard saying in video.

'Pretty spectacular'

Chris Cassidy also shared pictures from ISS, showing spectacular view below his feet. Behnken shared im of a sunset, saying y set camera to automatically take shots every few seconds during walks.

In May, Behnken flew in Dragon Crew craft along with ar NASA astronaut Doug Hurley, riding off capsule on top of a Falcon 9 rocket from launch p which was used by Apollo Moon missions nearly half a century ago. Crew Dragon capsule blasted off from Kennedy Center's historic Launch P 39A on May 30 at 3:22pm EDT to International Station from American turf for first time in nine years.

During a live conference from ISS, astronauts shared ir first-hand experience of commercial craft. Behnken h also talked about difference in experience with staging between shuttle and Dragon since y didn’t shut down main engine on shuttle.
