To commemorate NASA Hubble Telescope’s 30 years in , its official Twitter account on December 12 shared 30 stunning sights captured by Hubble from Caldwell Catalog. Caldwell Catalog is basically an astromical catalogue of 109 star clusters, nebulae and galaxies for amateur astromers to observe and entire list was compiled by science communicator Sir Patrick Caldwell-Moore back in December 11995.
Newly released, collection of more than 50 Hubble ims feature nearly 30 objects in Caldwell Catalog that was inspired by Messier Catalog. Some of objects included in Caldwell also appear in more than one new Hubble im that was taken by telescope throughout its career and were furr used by scientists for eir research or engineering tests. However, it was for first time that NASA processed ims for public release.

NASA also elaborated why Hubble ims failed to capture any Caldwell object entirely. It is because of telescope’s “detailed field of view”. NASA said, “Because of Hubble’s detailed field of view, some of its pictures do t capture entirety of a Caldwell object, sometimes inste zooming in on clusters of young stars in arms of a spiral galaxy, stars on outskirts of a cluster, or zombie star at heart of a nebula. But in or cases, a mosaic of Hubble observations assemble to create a complete or nearly complete portrait of celestial marvel.”

ims released on December 12 have joined Hubble’s existing gallery of Caldwell objects that was first published last year in this month. refore, as of w, Hubble’s collection w includes 87 of 109 Caldwell objects. For each listed object, basic star chart also shows observers when and where y can find that object in night sky along with a description that suggests what of observing equipment is required to view same.

NASA’s Hubble telescope was launched aboard Shuttle Discovery in April 1990 and has been upgred nearly five times by crews of walking astronauts before it turned 30. According to NASA, it is w “even better” than what it was launched and it has continued to capture groundbreaking ims leing to discoverings that challenge as well as vance researchers’ fundamental understanding of cosmos.
