NASA, SpaceX set to launch historic first astronaut mission on May 27

NASA and SpaceX are all set to launch astronauts to space on May 27 and their managers met on May 1 to give a virtual briefing about the program to fliers.

NASA and X are all set to launch astronauts to on May 27 and ir manrs met on May 1 to give a virtual briefing about program to Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley, who will be flying to International Station (ISS) as a part of ncy’s Commercial Crew Program (CCP). This is first time in nine years that astronauts will take off to from US soil as NASA h shut down its Shuttle Program in 2011 and was sending people via Russian Soyuz rockets, spending million per he. 

Behnken and Hurley will fly to station aboard a X Crew Dragon craft launched by a Falcon 9 rocket from Kennedy Center’s Launch Complex 39A. Liftoff is slated for May 27 at 4:32 pm Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).

High priority mission

"This is a high priority mission for United States of America. We as a nation have t h our own access to International Station for nine years. At same time, we’ve h American astronauts on International Station for 20 years in a row, and y’ve been doing se absolutely stunning experiments and discoveries and vancing human condition from microgravity of ,” NASA ministrator Jim Bridenstine was quoted as saying on ncy's website.

launch is an important st in NASA's Commercial Crew Program as ncy has spent billions on contracts with X and Boeing to develop shuttles to help it send astronauts to International Station. According to reports, X and Boeing will each have to make six round trips each to ISS as part of ir current contracts.

"We won’t have luxury of having our family and friends being re at Kennedy to watch launch. But, obviously, it’s right thing to do in current environment. We want everybody to be safe. We want everybody to enjoy this and relish this moment in U.S. history, but be safe and enjoy it from a distance," Hurley said.
