On September 9, many residents across Norrn California took to Twitter to share pictures of orange skies. Twitter users posted pictures and videos of orange sky and reported that sky h turned orange in early hours of dawn. Norrn California residents were in utter shock and unable to understand reason behind orange skies in San Francisco and or parts of region. A report on CBS local later explained that an outbreak of wildfires across Norrn California h left a massive layer of smoke draped over San Francisco Bay Area. Why is San Francisco sky orange?
CBS report furr mentioned that more than 2 million acres of forest have burned so far in a series of wildfires in California. Bear and Creek fires are currently raging to east of San Francisco Bay Area. Moreover, executive officer of Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Jack Brobent, stated that Labor Day weekend heatwave, combined with tailpipe exhaust and lingering wildfire smoke, h me air quality in area very unhealthy.

Air District in area h issued a Spare Air alert for residents which was extended through at least Friday, September 11. This h extended record to 25 straight days of such alerts in area. Reportedly previous record was 16 days in 2018, which was when Camp Fire h torn through Butte County. Officials in district urged all of its residents to drive less and stay indoors in order to protect ir health during dangerous smoggy and smoky days.

San Francisco air quality continues to worsen
In dition to district ministration, National Wear Service also took note of incidence and furr revealed that residents could not expect any immediate relief as orange skies in San Francisco were here to stay. NWS Sacramento took to its Twitter handle on September 9 and shared news that smoke and haze was here to linger around Bay Area. wildfires in California are still raging. NWS forecast has also mentioned that suspended smoke will be descending closer to surface which could le to darker skies and worsening air quality in upcoming days.

Orange skies in San Francisco: How did Mayor react?
San Francisco Mayor London Breed took to social media immediately after San Francisco air quality worsened to calm any anxiety. Breed stated, “I know people are concerned by orange sky we all woke up to this morning,” she tweeted. “ cause is a combination of fog and smoke from wildfires up and down West Coast.” Oakland Zoo authorities promptly announced that it was closing for day due to smoke on ir Instagram.
