NASA astronomers have recently discovered cosmic dust that holds ingredients for star birth throughout universe. According to a press note, NASA Hubble Space Telescope has photographed a concentration of elements that are responsible for formation of stars in our galaxy and throughout universe. US space agency informed that opaque, dark knots of gas and dust, that can be seen in picture, are called ‘Bok globules’.

‘Bok globules’ absorbs light in centre of nearby emission nebula and star-forming region, NGC-281. NASA said that globules are named after astronomer Bart Bok, who proposed ir existence in 1940s. gobbles also can become perturbed and form small pockets where dust and gas are highly concentrated.

small pockets n become gravitationally bound and accumulate dust and gas from surrounding area. If y can capture enough mass, y have potential of creating stars in ir corers, however, not all Bok globules will form stars, NASA explained. Furr, near globules are bright blue stars, members of young open cluster IC 1590.

US space agency said that cluster is me up of a few hundred stars and cluster’s core, off image towards top, is a tight grouping of extremely hot, massive stars with an immense stellar wind. stars emit visible and ultraviolet light that energises surrounding hydrogen gas in NGC 281. This gas n becomes superheated in a process called ionization, and it glows pink in image, press note re.

NASA said, “ Bok globules in NGC 281 are located very close to center of IC 1590 cluster. exquisite resolution of se Hubble observations shows jagged structure of dust clouds as if y are being stripped apart from outside. heavy fracturing of globules may appear beautifully serene but is in fact evident of harsh, violent environment created by nearby massive stars”.

NGC 281 located 9,500 light-years away

Noneless, Bok globules in NGC 281 are visually striking. y are silhouetted against luminous pink hydrogen gas of emission nebula, creating a stark visual contrast. task knots, on or hand, are opaque in visual light and conversely, nebulous gas surrounding globules is transparent and allows light from background stars and even background galaxies to shine through. Furr, NASA informed that image was taken with Hubble vanced Camera for Surveys in October 2005.

“ hydrogen-emission image that clearly shows outline of dark globules was combined with images taken in red, blue, and green light in order to help establish true color of stars in field. NGC 281 is located nearly 9,500 light-years away in direction of constellation Cassiopeia,” NASA said.
