Astromers have recently been able to spot a rock that appeared to be undergoing some significant life changes. According to Planetary scientists, y have discovered an object that is in process of turning into a comet. This is something y have witnessed for very first time.

How was object spotted?
object was spotted with help of an Atlas telescope and has been called P/2019 LD2. It was discovered in Hawaii in May 2020 and was initially suggested by researchers at University of Hawaiʻi at Maa Institute for Astromy that it was first cometary Jupiter Trojan asteroid, however, it is w suggested by studies that it’s an active centaur.
distinction was me using its orbit, which is a of rocky and icy object and features some diverse compositions. se are short-period comets that are also considered as dynamically unstable part of icy bodies. y come from trans-Neptunian reservoir population in Kuiper Belt, and revolve around sun in about every ten years.

In due course, se objects can transform dynamically with help of gravitational interactions with giant planets. evolution continues until centaurs are released or y relocate into solar system.

It is also worth ting that short-period comets that were found earlier h first transformed into comets, however, that’s t case with P/2019 LD2. According to a report published by Kathryn Volk and associates at arXiv.org, LD2 will transition into a comet by 2063.

Kathryn Volk and her team have also reproduced a number of different paths to observe where P/2019 LD2 was and place it was going. In 1850, its orbit drove it towards Saturn before it got into its present orbit and h a close encounter with gas giant planet in year 2017. In 2063, P/2019 LD2 will move out of its current orbit towards sun, where sun’s heat will likely channel LD2’s volatile elements, reby giving it a shiny comet tail.
As per ScienceNews, American ncy NASA has plans to launch shuttle to centaurs, however, re isn't any development as of yet.
