Elon Musk took to microblogging site, Twitter to share this information about SpaceX official name. He informed that SpaceX is abbreviation of  "official name" Space Exploration Technologies Corporation.

It maneuvres space aerospace transportation services and communications. company has its hequarters in Hawthorne, California. goal of SpaceX, as stated by Musk is "reducing space transportation cost to enable colonisation of Mars."

From Falcon 1 to Dragon capsule
