Aam Ami Party (AAP) has approached Election Commission of India (EC) alleging Prime Minister Narendra Modi violated Moral Code of Conduct after he me comments concerning IAF's Wing Commandor Abhinandan Varthaman.

Arvind Kejriwal's party's legal cell has written a letter, suggesting that PM Modi's reference of Wing Commandor Abhinandan during his exclusive interview with Republic Media Network, and BJP using his comments on its official Twitter handle, goes against EC's Moral Code of Conduct.

"Hon'ble Prime Minister in his interview me reference about Abhinandan AIr Force personnel who shot down F 16 and his bravery was celebrated across country. But using his name in a interview with an intention to obtain Political gain is complete violation of Model Code of Conduct and above mention visory specifically issued in this regard," re AAP's complaint to EC against PM Modi.

On Friday, PM Modi, in his first election interview ahe of upcoming Lok Sabha polls, spoke exclusively to Republic Media Network's editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami.

It was during this interaction that he spoke about IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who shot down a F-16 during IAF and PAF 'dogfight', following which his aircraft was shot down and he landed in Pakistan's territory and was detained by Pakistan government, but was released two days later after diplomatic pressure by Indian government.

Prime Minister h referred to IAF pilot's name to slam Opposition for playing politics, and stated that Congress and or political parties failed to stay united with country at that very moment.

"You would kw, when Abhinandan's incident happened, all Indian political parties should have united and said that we are proud of Indian forces that an F-16 was shot down. Inste, y went on saying 'when will Abhinandan return? When will Abhinandan return?' within 2 hours," Prime Minister h said during interview.

"Abhinandan's return talks...Ok, he was caught. government will do what it has to do at a diplomatic level. But y (Opposition) h planned a candlelight march for Abhinandan, Pulwama, and Airstrike," he ded.
