As King of the Ring tournament makes its comeback, here are the five instances where it took the superstars to greatness

night after Summerslam 2019, commentator Micheal Cole h me an anuncement this past Monday night on Raw, that WWE's once prestigious 'King of Ring' tournament will be making a comeback from next week onwards. King of Ring was one of most sought after pay-per-views in '90s and 2000s and in fact, re used to be a special pay-per-view of its name till 2002. 

This year's King of Ring participants include 16 superstars i.e. eight from Raw and eight from SmackDown Live. likes of  Miz, Ricochet, Cedric Alexander, Drew McIntyre, Cesaro, Baron Corbin, Sami Zayn, Samoa Joe (Raw) and Elias, Kevin Owens, Ch Gable, Andre, Shelton Benjamin, Buddy Murphy, Ali and Apollo Crews (Smackdown Live) will be competing for throne. As per reports, final will be held at next pay-per-view  Clash of Champions on September 15.

5. Brock Lesnar gets off to a dream start (King of Ring 2002):

It was indeed a dream year for Brock Lesnar. He started creating havoc ever since his debut after Wrestlemania XVIII. He decimated Rob Van Dam in final to become that year's tournament winner. This was just beginning as 'Next Big Thing' became youngest WWE Champion in a couple of month's time at Summerslam and n, he would also go on to emerge victorious at Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania XIX in following year.

4. Bret Hart's crowning moment of glory (King of Ring 1993):

Bret Hart is one of legendary as well as most respected superstars of professional wrestling. This was one of best matches of Hitman's career as well as he fought against a strong Bam Bam Bigelow for crown. neless, Hall of Famer overcame this challenge and grabbed throne. However, interesting thing was that Hart's crowning moment of glory came after fighting three tough superstars in a single night. Prior to his final match against  Bam Bam Bigelow, Bret Hart h overcome Razor Ramon in quarterfinal and Mr. Perfect in semi-final.

3. Stone Cold Steve Austin becomes a megastar (King of Ring 1996):

This win was indeed a turning point in Austin's career. He defeated Jake Roberts in a high-octane match-up. timing was right for 'Texas Rattlesnake' when he h won this tournament as top guns including likes of Shawn Michaels, Undertaker, Bret Hart, etc. were on top of ir game. After this win, Steve never looked back as he became top star of Attitude Era.

2. When Triple H became 'King of Kings' (King of Ring 1997):

Just like or top superstars, King of Ring tournament also helped in molding HHH's career as well. This was one of his many triumphant moments. Game defeated Mankind for throne and that marked beginning of what went on to establish ' Hunter' as 'King of Kings'. He would t only be one of top superstars of Attitude Era but would also become arguably best heel of that time.

1. When Booker T became 'King of World' (2006):

Booker T has been in industry for three deces. Prior to his career in WWF/E, he was a five-time WCW Champion where he overcame likes of Goldberg and Sting. However, he got two opportunities for World Heavyweight Championship but was unsuccessful. He also got a WWE Championship title shot but could t find success re as well. But, he h mand to win World Tag Team Championship along with Rob Van Dam and also enjoyed a good run as United States Champion. neless, a man of his caliber deserved much more than this and his patience was rewarded in 2006 when he beat hard-hitting Bobby Lashley in final at Judgement Day.

Booker ded yet ar fear in his cap when he defeated Rey Mysterio a couple of months later at Great American Bash for World Heavyweight Championship as he came to be kwn as 'King of World'.
