Road to final
Garg and Rawat perfectly complemented each other’s playing style throughout the tournament. Their brilliance was on display during their win over the second seeds Ahmed Salah and Hadia Hosny of Egypt by 21-16, 21-15 in Round 2. This win was followed by a tremendous comeback against fourth seeds Koceila Mammeri and Linda Mazri of Algeria to win the semi-finals 16-21, 21-16, 21-9.

However, Garg couldn’t make it a double delight for herself as she and Sanyogita Ghorpade lost the women’s doubles final later, the same day. The duo missed the final win by 16-21, 21-19, 19-21 to third seeds Simran Singhi and Ritika Thaker.
This would be the fourth women’s double international title for the 18-year-olds Singhi and Thaker. With this win, the duo has proven that they are by far the best doubles combination in India.

In a reversal of fates, India’s Rituparna Das, who is ranked 144 in the world, lost to Japan’s world no. 208 Mako Urushizaki 21-23, 17-21 at the Dubai International Challenge. Das was looking to win her first BWF title of the year. The shuttler, in the past, had expressed her desire to emulate Ace shuttler Saina Nehwal. She even went on record, praising Nehwal’s never-say-die spirit. She stated that she wanted to learn patience that Nehwal displays in her game.
