PV Sindhu wishes mom 'happy birthday' as she clinches maiden WC gold

P V Sindhu on Sunday became the first Indian to win badminton World Championships (BWF) gold by beating long-term rival Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in the finals

P V Sindhu on Sunday became first Indian to win bminton World Championships (BWF) gold by beating zomi Okuhara of Japan in  finals. Sindhu won 21-7 21-7 in summit clash that lasted just 38 minutes. As she thanked crowd for incredible support she received and her coaches, Sindhi dedicated award to her mor. Speaking at event she said that she did it for country and dedicated it to her mor who is celebrating her birthday on August 25. It was Sindhu's fifth World Championships medal -- joint-most for a woman singles player with former Olympics and world champion Zhang Ning of China -- to go with two successive silvers and a couple of bronze medals.

Dedicating victory to her mor, Sindhu said: "I want to dedicate it to my mor, it's her birthday today. Happy Birthday mom." As Sindhu wished her mom happy birthday, crowd started singing birthday song. She continued: "Last time I lost in finals and before year also I lost finals, I am very happy this time, it was a very important win for me. I would like to thank crowd because it means a lot. Every time y were y for my match. y cheered me. Big thanks to all of you. I won for my country. I am very proud of it being an Indian." PV Sindhu also thanked her coach and Pullela Gopichand for all support y have given to her.
