Clippers guard Lou Williams opens up on being given 'Underground GOAT' nickname

The Clippers registered a narrow victory over the Knicks this past weekend. After the game, Lou Williams offered an explanation to an unusual nickname.

On Sunday (Monday morning IST) at Staples Center, Clippers put in a team effort to register a victory against New York Knicks. While it may have been a close shave for Clippers in Q4, Lou Williams, Paul George and co. ultimately held on for win. Lou Williams turned up with a 32-point display, but that wasn't only revelation to come through at Staples Center on Sunday.

Clippers guard Lou Williams explains mystery behind his 'Underground GOAT' nickname

Lou Williams graced cover of July 2019 issue of  SLAM Magazine, which labelled him 'Underground GOAT'. However, magazine had a fitting explanation for label. "Lou Williams is somehow both underappreciated and respected. He’s arrogant and humble. He’s young and old. He’s super laid-back and he’s an assassin.", magazine claimed. After game against Knicks, Lou Williams elaborated on those statements. "I'm GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) next to all of superstars", Clippers guard said. "I'm your favourite player's favourite player", he concluded.

While Lou Williams may t be man grabbing headlines in Clippers' roster, he has turned up when his team needed him most. On a night when Kawhi Leonard was missing, Lou Williams shouldered points-scoring burden, finishing with 32 points, 2 rebounds and 9 assists. Paul George also finished with 32 points, whereas Montrezl Harrell finished with a team-high 34 points at Staples Center.

Lou Williams was traded to Clippers from Houston Rockets in 2017. While he may t have gotten off to a blistering start with Clippers, three-time NBA Sixth Man of Year has held his own ever since. With a 26-12 record, Clippers are currently fourth in NBA's Western Conference standings. ir next game will see m host Golden State Warriors at Staples Center on Friday night (Saturday morning IST).
