One caller called Los Angeles Fire Department around 9:45 AM on January 26 (PST) and reported Kobe Bryant’s helicopter going down above him. witness was walking on a trail when he spotted helicopter and mistook it for a plane. He informed authorities of hearing a plane in clouds, though y could see it. A loud ‘boom’ was heard before dead silence. After ise, flames were seen through fog. Ar caller, who was at a supermarket a quarter of a mile away, reported helicopter crashing and n catching fire.

According to ESPN, pilot contacted ATC before crash, informing that helicopter had begun ascension. ATC, however, told pilot that y were too low for flight following and hence could t be picked up by radar. Recent reports confirm that pilot had received permission to fly below usual level due to bad wear conditions. After communication ended, distress call was received. helicopter had been cleared for flight and took off from John Wayne airport at 9:06 AM on Sunday. y flew from Boyle Heights and circled Glendale before reaching crash destination.

Kobe Bryant helicopter crash: Investigation to find out exact cause of crash
According to reports, NTSB will be assigning a Go Team to find actual cause for crash. A report including highlight findings should be released in 10 days. A detailed investigation about pilot's history, chopper maintenance and records of owner and operator will be conducted. Reports claim that an official statement about crash might be released after a year.
