LeBron James' message on racism from 2017 NBA Finals goes viral amid George Floyd protests

LeBron James has been one of the many prominent athletes who have led social media movements in light of the death of George Floyd last week.

Editor's te: Almost 3 weeks subsequent to publishing of this story, Fiona Moriarty-McLaughlin wrote an opinion piece in USA Today in which she clarified sequence of events that took place before and after what she dubbed as her '17 seconds of infamy'.

  2. That denunciations of her behaviour by US publications and celebrities like LeBron James and Pink were based on incorrect facts.
  3. That person who recorded video of her attempting to help - t pose - was her far and t her boyfriend.
  4. quote attributed to her - “Good job guys, BLM” - was by one of hecklers off camera.

On May 25, George Floyd, 46, was detained for questioning. incident which was caught on video showed a police officer identified as Derek Chauvin pinning Floyd down on  ground when things escalated and holding his knee to Floyd's neck for more than eight minutes as he continued to interrogate him. In video that has since sparked outr all over world, just before George Floyd death, victim can be heard pleing in his last moments with officer to let him go, as he could t brea. accused police officer has w been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in  George Floyd death.

George Floyd protests: LeBron James speaks about racism in United States 

In light of LeBron James' outr on social media in last few days, a video of James talking about racism ahe of Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Finals series against Golden State Warriors in 2017 went viral. former Cavaliers star about racial discrimination after a racial slur was spray-painted on front gate of his house in Los Angeles in 2017. While talking to media ahe of Finals, LeBron James h said, " matter how famous you are and how much money you earn, being black in America is tough." He h also said that "black people have a long way to go until y feel equal in America".

While George Floyd protests continue to make helines in US, LeBron James Fiona Moriarty-McLaughlin incident also took centre st this week.  NBA star shared a video of wrongly reported 'fake activism' of Fiona Moriarty-McLaughlin. viral video drew a lot of criticism from fans and athletes alike.

In video, McLaughlin can be seen posing with an African-American construction worker with a power drill in her hand. Within 24 hours of her video going viral, Fiona Moriarty-McLaughlin was reportedly fired by  Washington Examiner.
