shoes were reportedly owned by shoe collector Jordy Geller and broke previous record of a pair of moon shoes. y were an original prototype of Nike's first shoes that were given to University of Oregon's runners by Oregan coach and Nike's co-founder – Bill Bowerman. Geller sold those shoes in July 2019 for $437,500 via Soby's. In ir press release, Soby's referred to Nike Air Jordan 1s as 'one of most important basketball Sneakers of all time made exclusively for legendary NBA Chicago Bulls player'. Bidders ranged from 19 to 50, and around 70% of bidders were new to auction site.

Geller had acquired 1985 Air Jordan 1s in 2012 and apparently decided to part ways with m as Jordan's memorabilia started selling for thousands post release of Last Dance. prices have gone up past week, as ten-part docu-series will air its final two episodes this week. As per Action Network, Geller stated that tweets convinced him to sell shoes as 'w is right time'. Brahm Wachter, who conducted Soby's auction, stated that Geller has always had a 'great sense of timing for se things'. auction house is also thrilled for price, and consider it a telltale sign of Jordan's legacy. shoe sold for more than what Michael Jordan made when he first signed with Nike with a $500,000 a year deal.

previous record for a Jordan shoe belonged to his Converse shoes worn during 1984 Olympics. y were sold by SCP Auctions for $190,373 in 2017. His Air Jodan XII's worn during 1997 NBA Finals Game 5 was sold at $104,765 in 2013. This auction also surpassed price for Roger Bannister's shoes which he wore while breaking four-minute mile barrier in 1954. Those were sold at a reported $409,000.
