It has been a rough time in LA for the Atlanta Hawks. After a 150-101 loss to the Paul George-led LA Clippers, the Hawks were up against an LA Lakers side featuring LeBron James in devastating form. The scoreline varied, but the result was the same as the LA-based side triumphed over the Hawks by a 122-101 margin.

Kobe Bryant at Lakers game

Interestingly, Lakers legend Kobe Bryant was on hand to witness the Lakers emerge victorious at the Staples Center on Monday, November 18. Naturally, Kobe Bryant’s courtside presence spurred LeBron James on as he went on to register a 33-point display with 12 assists and seven rebounds. With Kobe Bryant enjoying his retirement after a 20-year playing career with the Lakers and LeBron James in his 17th year in the NBA, it was only fitting that the two shared a moment after the Lakers’ win over the Hawks.

After the game, LeBron James was asked what was shared between him and the Lakers legend as the pair made eye contact during the game. James went on to say that winning was the one thing they had in common; that and doing whatever it takes to win championships. LeBron James was also quoted as saying that since both him and Bryant were recruited straight out of high school, both of them were burdened with a significant amount of pressure at a young age.

LeBron James also went on to say that he relates to Kobe Bryant in the sense that they both put everything into the game to win. He also said that it was “surreal” to see Kobe Bryant sit on the sidelines during the win over the Hawks. Anthony Davis was also star-struck on seeing Kobe Bryant sitting courtside on Monday. Davis was quoted as saying that seeing Kobe Bryant during the game made him wonder whether he too could replicate Bryant’s contribution to the franchise. The win over Atlanta Hawks means that the Lakers now have an 11-2 record in the NBA this season – their best record since the 2010-11 season.
