NBA trade rumours: Philadelphia 76ers to try and acquire Rockets mainstay James Harden
NBA trade rumours: With the NBA free agency nearing, reports hint at the Philadelphia 76ers planning to try and acquire Houston Rockets star, James Harden.

While Houston Rockets made it to Western Conference semi-finals this season, y failed to beat LeBron James and Los Angeles Lakers to make it through to final hurdle. James Harden and Russell Westbrook, who had been two leading scorers this season, failed to lead Houston to victory as ir small-ball mantra came up short. Weeks later, Rockets parted ways with GM Daryl Morey, who is w with Philadelphia 76ers. As per recent reports, 76ers might w be interested in acquiring Harden.

According to Stadium and Athletic's Shams Charania, 76ers want to reunite Harden with his former GM, Morey. Morey and 76ers recently confirmed ir deal, where Morey will operate as ir President of Basketball Operations. Additionally, 76ers also hired Doc Rivers as ir coach. However, Rockets are reportedly t interested in trading Harden right w.

While Rockets are currently t ready to part with Harden, his trade could become team's first step towards rebuilding. Rockets have reached playoffs for eight consecutive years but are yet to play NBA Finals. However, Houston could also look to build around Harden as focal point of ir team, which also has Russell Westbrook on ir roster.
Morey, who has had experience of handling Harden, is understandably interested in bringing him to Philadelphia. Paired with Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, 76ers could balance ir perimeter and shooting with arguably league's most prolific scorer. Morey has also praised Harden, thanking him for changing his life and revolutionizing basketball.

In 2012, James Harden joined Rockets after three initial seasons with OKC Thunder. In 2016, he signed a four-year deal with Rockets, a deal which saw him earn $118 million through 2020 season. However, Harden ended up signing a $228 million contract extension through 2022-21 season. Currently, Harden is owed $85.7 million for next two seasons. He has a $47.4 player option for 2022-23.
