WNBA season scheduled to tip off on July 25

WNBA season is scheduled to tip off July 25 with all games that weekend dedicated to Black Lives Matter movement.

All 12 franchises will play opening weekend and hor victims of police brutality and racial violence. Team uniforms will display Breonna Taylor’s name. Players will each have option to continue to wear Taylor’s name on ir jersey for subsequent games.

Taylor, a 26-year-old Black emergency medical technician, was shot eight times by plainclos Louisville police officers serving a narcotics search warrant at her apartment on March 13. drugs were found. Her family and protesters around country have called for swift action against officers who shot Taylor.

ditionally, throughout season, players will wear warm-up shirts that display “Black Lives Matter” on front and “Say Her Name” on back.

“As we build on momentum for women’s sports and WNBA from last season, we’re incredibly grateful to our brocast partners who have shown a continued commitment to bringing WNBA to fans across country on ir biggest platforms,” WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said.

“This 2020 WNBA season will truly be one unlike any or, and we’re looking forward to using our collective platform to highlight tremendous athletes in WNBA as well as ir vocacy for social change.”

league's 24th season will be played at a single site in Brenton, Florida. Each team will play a 22-game schedule, facing opponents twice. One game will be designated as a home game and or one a ro contest.

league will have three games a day, playing on two courts at Feld Entertainment Center, which is near IMG Acemy where players are staying.

regular season will begin with . 1 pick Sabrina Ionescu and New York Liberty facing Breanna Stewart and Seattle Storm in a nationally televised game. Stewart missed all of last season while recovering from a torn Achilles tendon.

season is set to end on Sept. 12 with playoffs beginning soon after. WNBA is using its tritional playoff format with eight teams reaching postseason and a single-elimination game being played in opening two rounds.

ESPN is alrey slated to brocast 24 games during first few weeks of season across its channels, including ABC. It's most regular-season games network has shown.

“We are beyond excited to have WNBA resuming play on our family of networks with a 24-game regular season slate,” said Carol Stiff, ESPN’s vice president of programming and acquisitions.

“Our continued collaboration with WNBA has resulted in a schedule that features every team in league."

CBS Sports Network will show 40 games, including one on its main network.
