PT Usha Expresses Shock On CAS' Operative Order

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha was shocked with the CAS case dismissal as she expressed her disappointment at the verdict.

But as it turns out despite leaving every stone unturned, Vinesh Phogat will not be awarded a medal for her Paris Olympics campaign.

Entire Timeline of Vinesh Phogat Saga

  • Vinesh Phogat participated in lower weight class of 50kg women's freestyle wrestling compared to her natural weight class of 53kg. However, Phogat had a sensational run despite the weight cut as he beat number one seed Yui Susaki in the first round and went strength to strength to reach the finals
  • However, on the morning of her Gold Medal match, the heart breaking news came out that Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the Olympics after being found 100 grams overweight. Phogat had put on excess 2.7kg in rebound weight gain over Day 1, and despite taking all necessary measures was only able to shed 2.6 kg overnight and missing the required mark
  • Vinesh Phogat last however filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sports to be given at least a Silver Medal at the Olympics
  • The CAS ad-hoc division, set up especially for dispute resolution during the Games, had accepted Vinesh's appeal against her disqualification on Friday. It was revealed that a decision would come out on 11th August, however the Verdict was deferred till August 13th
  • On August 13th, the CAS further revealed that case was once again deferred till August 16th. However, it has now been revealed that her case is dismissed

The Indian Olympic Association was confident over the weekend that the CAS verdict will rule in favour of Phogat and India will be awarded its deserving Silver Medal.  To help Vinesh Phogat's case in the CAS the IOA had the best legal help at their disposal French lawyers Joelle Monlouis, Estelle Ivanova, Habbine Estelle Kim and Charles Amson. The case was also accompanied by Harish Salve and Vidushpat Singhania as they hoped to bring the verdict in Phogat's favour.
