Canada issues ultimatum to IOC; 'delay Tokyo Olympics 2020 or we won't participate'

Canian Olympic Committee and Canian Paralympic Committee (CPC) has decided to t send its athletes to this year's Tokyo Olympics. Canian authorities have asked Olympics Committee to push Games by a year and have offered to help International Olympic Committee (IOC) in rescheduling.
demand for rescheduling comes in light of Coronavirus outbreak, which has claimed more than 14,600 deaths with more than 3,37,000 people testing positive.

A statement released on Sunday evening re, " COC and CPC urgently call on International Olympic Committee (IOC), and International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and World Health Organisation (WHO) to postpone Games for one year and we offer m our full support in helping navigate all complexities that rescheduling Games will bring. While we recognise inherent complexities around a postponement, thing is more important than health and safety of our athletes and world community."

COC stated that apart from health of athletes, public health is at stake and "it is t safe for our athletes, and health and safety of ir families and broer Canian community for athletes to continue training towards se Games. In fact, it runs counter to public health vice which we urge all Canians to follow."

In statement released, COC ackwledged IOC letter "We also applaud IOC for ackwledging that safeguarding health and wellness of nations and containing virus must be our paramount concern. We are in midst of a global health crisis that is far more significant than sport."
