NFL player and activist Colin Kaepernick recently wore a Kunta Kinte t-shirt while working out in front of team scouts and NFL executives. The quarterback, who is currently a free agent, made some big statements during the workout. The workout took place at Charles R Drew high school in Riverdale, Georgia due to some end-moment changes that needed to be made. According to reports, the NFL was not going to allow media from attending the workout at its original location in Atlanta Falcon. The former San Francisco 49ers previously made headlines for kneeling during the national anthem to protest against racial injustice in the US.
What does the Kunta Kinte t-shirt mean?
Kunta Kinte was a character in 'Roots', which is a 1976 novel based on an African man who was enslaved at taken to America. Though the character was fictional, the story was real. Kaepernick wearing the t-shirt in public made a big statement. In an interview after the workout, Kaepernick stated that he is ready to play since he has been denied for three years now. Fans reacted to his t-shirt on Twitter. Some were completely supporting Kaepernick, while some thought he was going out of his way to make things difficult by wearing a Kunta Kinte t-shirt to the workout. The workout itself was impressive, as Kaepernick launched bombs down the field. According to NFL reports after the workout, the quarterback performed well, and has 'elite' talent'.
